a journal of art, stitching, growing, finding simple joys...and cake!
about me
My name is Gail Bussi and (in no particular order!) I love writing, painting, stitching, baking, teatime, the beach, birdsong and other beautiful gifts of nature. I believe magic and enchantment are not limited to fairy tales and Disney movies - they exist in the here and now, and are to be found all around us, if we just choose to open our eyes and see! I also believe our homes, wherever and whatever they may be, are shelters for soul and spirit, places where we can rest, grow, create and connect.
Some years ago I had a small needlework design business called 'Enchanted Cottage Needleworks', with a catalog (days before websites/blogs were commonplace!) that I sent out all over the world. I loved my little business and stitched creations, but after a while I wanted to try something new and different, so I stepped aside from stitch designs, and focused on my writing and artwork. I wrote and illustrated a cookbook and created my own line of little cards, prints and small, handwritten books.
However life brought me full circle (it has a funny way of doing that!) and I started turning my watercolor and pen artwork into stitcheries for others to create and enjoy. So, this new blog will feature some of my artwork and stitched designs, as well as sharing other things I love and enjoy, like cooking, baking and my favourite recipes!
My new cross stitch book, 'Inspired Stitches' - which is a collection of small whimsical quotes and affirmations, will be published (all going well given the problems facing the world at this moment) towards the end of 2020 in the US, And I am already working on another book of stitched patterns, this one a stitcher's journal with small samplers, inspirational thoughts and, of course, delicious recipes! And I am also putting together a handwritten and illustrated cookbook based on the recipe journals I have kept over the years - this one is provisionally entitled 'Love, Lemons & Thyme.'
I am also a trained herbalist, flower remedy practitioner and mindfulness/meditation teacher, and have a lifelong interest in all things wild, green, natural and magical. (I will be starting another blog shortly to highlight and focus on these things, called gypsymoonmagic.blogspot.com.)
I currently live in a small cottage between the mountains and the sea, and surrounded by old trees, lakes and lots of birds. I am truly blessed... and hope my work brings some of that inspiration and joy to others.
